What You Need to Know About 3PAR Storage Processor and Its Features

We have been tasked to move the infrastructure from one datacetner to another: we have already changed the 3par ip (the network from in the 2 DCs are different) and we are able to reach it via cli (ssh), we also configured the SSMC and we managed to connect it to the 3par:

Because we just found out there's an hardware fault on the 3par (looks like a battery problem), we are going to renew it in september and after that, If i got it correctly, I should be able to see the Service Processor listed in the download section.

The Intel Optane device will be NVMe connected and act as an extension to the onboard controller cache. Other vendors such as Pure have added NVMe drives into the system but HPE have focused on adding the NVMe storage within the controller as they believe that the key bottleneck in flash systems is at the controller level and not disk. The additional cache creates quicker response times and also reduces the load on back end disks as the amount of IO served served here is reduced. Phillip Sellers has written an in-depth piece looking at the addition of SCM to Nimble and 3PAR.

Synchronous replication was added as a feature to the Nimble storage platform. The feature is being called Peer Persistence since HPE are also introducing support for metro clusters at the same time. I have covered Peer Persistence in-depth previously for 3PAR, it essentially allows for the creation of stretched cluster across geographically separate data centres. The Nimble implementation of Peer Persistence will initially support metro clusters for SQL and VMware.

Nimble Cloud Volumes were announced a couple of years ago. These cloud volumes offer block storage with the maturity and depth of services you would expect to see on premise for cloud. Announced this time round was the support of containerized workloads using both Docker and Kubernetes. Also announced was extended regional support so cloud volumes will be available for the UK and Ireland in 2019.

All HP 3PAR StoreServ storage arrays are installed in combination with a physical (3PAR 7000 and 10000) or virtual Service Processor (3PAR 7000). This Service Processor is one of the core components in the installation since it is permanently monitoring the 3PAR StoreServ and does alerting to HP and the customer in case of issues. It provides also remote management functionality to the HP Support team as well.

A Storage device in BMC Discovery represents a storage chassis that has been discovered by a scan of its embedded WBEM/SMI-S provider. This section provides information about the Storage Device on HP 3PAR Storage Systems.

A Storage connection represents a connection between a storage client (a host using the storage) and a storage volume. The same connection may be linked to multiple volumes representing the client's visibility of multiple storage volumes. The volumes shown are only those that the client is permitted to access. This section provides information about the Storage Connection for the selected storage volume.

After completing these steps your 3PAR service processor will reboot. It might take a couple of minutes before your console will be available. If everything went well your new certificate will be effective.

This section assumes that the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8440 Storage wasordered with a physical service processor or with a Virtual ServiceProcessor. VM is installed and functioning within the environment and isavailable on the same network as HPE Synergy Composer. It also assumesthat a DHCP server is present on the network. The user should have theserial number of the storage that is being installed.

This section assumes that a physical or virtual management serverrunning Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 is available and able tocommunicate on the same network as the HPE 3PAR StoreServ storage. If itis not, the user should create this management VM with the following: -Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 - 2 vCPU - 8GB RAM - 1x 100GB HDD forOS and applications - 1x 200GB HDD for Media - One (1) Network Interfaceconnected to the management network where the storage resides

3PAR Inc. was a manufacturer of systems and software for data storage and information management headquartered in Fremont, California, USA. 3PAR produced computer data storage products, including hardware disk arrays and storage management software. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Hewlett Packard Enterprise after an acquisition in 2010.

3PAR first shipped the InServ storage server in September 2002. 3PAR's primary competitors in the enterprise storage market are Dell EMC, Pure Storage, NetApp, Hitachi Data Systems and IBM. 3PAR called itself a pioneer of thin provisioning, a mechanism to improve the utilization efficiency of storage capacity deployment.[3][4]3PAR first announced this capability in June 2002 and shipped it to customers in 2003.[5]

An investment round of almost $33 million was disclosed in February 2004. Investors included Mayfield Fund, Menlo Ventures and Worldview Technology Partners.[1] In September 2007, 3PAR opened a second research and development office in Belfast, Northern Ireland.[6] The company completed an initial public offering in November 2007[7] and was initially listed on the NYSE Arca exchange under the symbol PAR.[8] In the same month, 3PAR introduced Virtual Domains, which allow for secure application data isolation on a consolidated multi-tenant storage platform. In December 2008, 3PAR moved to the NYSE Big Board. One year later, 3PAR opened an Indian subsidiary in Bangalore focused on providing logistical and administrative support for its Global Services and Support operations. In March 2010, the company introduced 3PAR Adaptive Optimization, the industry's first implementation of autonomic storage tiering for cost optimization in high-end storage systems, targeted at enterprises and service providers. In April 2010, the company was recognized by Forbes magazine as the fourth fastest growing technology company in its Tech25 list.[9]

3PAR promoted what it called "utility storage",[18] designed to be the storage foundation for utility computing architectures. Utility computing architectures provide a multi-tenant platform on which service providers can deliver both virtualized and scalable enterprise IT as a utility service. The emergence of software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and social networking business models deployed via the internet and cloud computing are examples of this trend. Enterprises and government organizations that are turning their IT organizations into internal service bureaus by building shared virtualized infrastructures for flexible workload consolidation are another.

In 2005, 3PAR's InServ storage server was marketed for business data centers.[19] It included the models T400 and T800 which compete with high-end monolithic storage arrays like the EMC DMX and HDS USP, and the models F200 and F400 which compete with modular storage arrays like the EMC CX and HP EVA.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE:HPE) announced an artificial intelligence (AI) recommendation engine designed to simplify and reduce the guesswork in managing infrastructure and improve application reliability. HPE InfoSight is an industry-leading predictive analytics platform that brings software-defined intelligence to the data center with the ability to predict and prevent infrastructure problems before they happen. Leveraging advanced machine learning, the new capabilities for HPE InfoSight pave the path toward an autonomous data center. HPE also announced the first release of HPE InfoSight for HPE 3PAR, setting in motion the promise to extend machine learning across the HPE storage and server portfolio.

Every second, HPE InfoSight analyzes millions of sensors across the globally connected installed base and uses this data to predict and prevent problems from storage to applications. HPE InfoSight ensures reliable performance and application uptime, helping to deliver greater than 99.9999% of guaranteed availability.

The HP3PARFCDriver and HP3PARISCSIDriver drivers, which are based on the Block Storage service (Cinder) plug-in architecture, run volume operations by communicating with the HP 3PAR storage system over HTTP, HTTPS, and SSH connections. The HTTP and HTTPS communications use hp3parclient, which is part of the Python standard library.

System makers are growing their portfolios of converged and integrated infrastructures to meet the increasing demand from organizations that are dealing with such trends as big data analytics, IT mobility, social software and the cloud, and are looking for greater efficiency in their data centers. Cisco provides a range of options within its Unified Computing Systems (UCS), which offer Cisco servers, networking and management software combined with storage and virtualization technology from other vendors, as well as integrated systems jointly developed with NetApp. 2ff7e9595c
